F.O.O.M.!
After three years, I’ve just about finished organizing the comics portion of my Accumulation, which means I am finally down to the magazine layer. In addition to stacks of Famous Monsters of Filmland and Savage Sword of Conan, I also uncovered my collection of F.O.O.M. magazine.
F.O.O.M. was Marvel’s 1970s in-house fan magazine — a house organ intended to promote Marvel projects and serve as the focus for being a member of the F.O.O.M. fan club (which, as I recall, also awarded a poster and a membership card). Anyway, because I’m always on the lookout for easy Friday content here at Longbox Graveyard, I thought I’d start a semi-regular new feature — F.O.O.M. Fridays, where I will offer scans and scant commentary of F.O.O.M. features past!
I only have about half of the twenty-two issue F.O.O.M. run, and I expect I will jump around a bit, so this will hardly be a comprehensive survey … but for this inaugural installment, here’s the cover of the first issue of F.O.O.M. (featuring some vintage Stan Lee bombast) …
… and the back cover, drawn by F.O.O.M.’s first editor, Jim Steranko. I don’t think Steranko had a lot of occasion to draw the wall-crawler, so this is at least of some small historical value!
See you next week for another F.O.O.M. Friday!
