This week’s Super Tuesday ad is an oddity — a Marvel Comics subscription ad that doesn’t show any Marvel comics! The ad asks us “What’s Wrong With This Picture?” … and I think the answer is that it’s kind of strange trying to sell me Spider-Man books without showing Spider-Man.
Artistic credit for this ad goes to Ron Zalme, who also did a couple covers for Marvel in the 1980s, and to judge by his website remains a working commercial artist. Ron’s bio at that same site notes he broke into the business as an Assistant Production Manager at Marvel after attending the Joe Kubert school.
